Formed in Wolverhampton, England in 1985, the Mighty LemonDrops' psychedelic post-punk pop earned the group frequent comparisons to Echo & the Bunnymen. The quartet, which consisted of vocalist Paul Marsh, guitarist David Newton, bassist Tony Linehan and drummer Keith Rowley, debuted in 1986 with Happy Head, followed a year later by Out of Hand. After 1988's World Without End, the Mighty Lemon Drops set about recording 1989's Laughter; during sessions for the LP, Linehan quit the band, and was replaced by bassist Marcus Williams, who remained with the group throughout their final two studio efforts, 1991's Sound and 1992's Ricochet. By Ricochet, the Mighty Lemon Drops no longer sounded exactly like Echo & the Bunnymen. But they do still fit squarely into that same, very well-defined and sonically limited Wall of Pop category. If you like moderately melodic pop music with lots of repetition and finely crafted, densely arranged guitar, this is the band for you. The Lemon Drops do write good songs, and occasionally even great ones: "Out of Touch " sounds like an outtake from the first Clash album (that's a compliment) and Susie Hug of the Katydids brings her effortless vocal grace to bear on the lovely "Falling Deep. " Format: CASSETTE ALBUM !--CASSETTES#NAME->DESC#It's humble, it's unobtrusive and it won't take up much shelf space. WE all used to play them till those shiny CD's came along, with days spent in your bedroom taping compilations of songs that meant something [and forcing them on everyone who knew you]. Most commonly available though the 1970's and 80's on cassette albums and never one to miss out on a new format of the cassette single, Malcom Mclarens Bow Wow Wow started this particular ball rolling in 1980 and it ended it's run in 2003, with no one owning up to the accolade. Primarily a means of exploiting the all singing Sony Walkmen cassette player, it lost out in the format battle and has now been replaced by memory sticks and the like [a market leader when clicks were what your records did]. Notoriously hard to find, [though ignored at the time] many were more limited than we ever imagined, so if you really want to call yourself a serious collector then this has to be one of your ones. Pay homage to the humble cassingle and take a peek through our catalogues, we probably have the largest stock in the world [and we're proud]. Vote with your wallet - keep the cassette alive.--> It's humble, it's unobtrusive and it won't take up much shelf space.
