The Solitaires, from Harlem, New York City formed in 1953. At the ripe old ages of 15 & 16, most were already veterans at recording. Members were Herman Curtis (aka Herman Dunham) - lead and formerly with, and shortly to return to, the Vocaleers on Red Robin Records. Bobby "Schubie " Williams - 1st tenor, Bobby Baylor - 2nd tenor & Monte Owens - tenor & guitar were all members of the Mello-Moods on Red Robin. Buzzy Willis - baritone sang but did not record with the Crows on Rama. Finally the bass, Pat Gaston sang with the Four Bells on Gem Records. Replacing Dunham in 56 came Milton Love of the Concords of Harlem Records. Pat Gaston was replaced by Freddie Barksdale as bass. The Solitaires recorded strictly for Hy Weiss Old Town label from 1954 thru 1963. With their great Uptempo signature song "Walking Along " to their great ballads such as "The Angels Sang ", the Solitaires will always remain in high esteem with Vocal Group enthusiasts. They were a true CLASS Act. Here are the remaining recordings from the archives of Old Town Records.
